SearchClear Privacy Policy.
This policy explains what the SearchClear Chrome extension stores, what it does not collect, and how its browser permissions are used.
Summary
SearchClear is designed to work locally in your browser. The extension does not require a SearchClear account, does not include extension analytics, and does not sell personal information.
Information SearchClear stores
SearchClear stores only the preferences needed to make the extension work:
- Saved filter settings, such as hide ads, affiliate spam, Pinterest, AI filler, Reddit/Quora, news sites, date range, and result range.
- Your custom domain blocklist, when you add domains to exclude from search results.
- Whether sticky filters are enabled.
- Whether the optional “Force real Google from address bar” setting is enabled.
These settings are stored using Chrome extension storage. Depending on your Chrome settings, Chrome may sync extension storage through your Google account. SearchClear does not operate its own account system or remote sync server.
Search queries and browsing activity
SearchClear reads the current Google search URL so it can show the active filter state and build an updated Google search URL when you click a filter.
If you turn on the optional address-bar redirect feature, SearchClear may detect search navigations on supported search engines and redirect the query to Google with your saved filters applied. This processing happens in the browser so the extension can update the current tab.
SearchClear does not send your search queries, browsing history, or filter settings to a SearchClear server.
Information SearchClear does not collect
- No name, email address, or account login is required by the extension.
- No payment information is collected by the extension.
- No analytics events are built into the extension.
- No personal information is sold or shared by SearchClear.
- No SearchClear server receives your saved filter settings or custom blocklist.
Permissions and why they are used

tabs
Used to open or update tabs when SearchClear builds a filtered Google search URL from the popup, context menu, omnibox, or optional redirect feature.

contextMenus

Host permissions
Used to run the SearchClear toolbar on Google search result pages and, when the optional redirect feature is enabled, recognize supported search-engine result pages for redirecting to Google.
Third parties
SearchClear modifies Google search URLs and opens Google Search pages. Google’s own services are governed by Google’s privacy practices. SearchClear is not affiliated with Google.
The extension does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or external data brokers.
Children’s privacy
SearchClear is a general productivity/search utility. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

This privacy policy may be updated if SearchClear’s features or permissions change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
